Bangkok Glass Canopy Project | RL1204 Spider Fittings & Tension Rod System | Pre-Well

Bangkok Glass Canopy Project | Stainless Steel Spider Fittings & Tension Rod Installation

In early 2025, Pre-Well received a project inquiry from a commercial complex located in central Bangkok, Thailand. The client planned to install a large glass canopy at the entrance. Their main goal was to provide shelter for pedestrians during rainy seasons while maintaining a modern, transparent, and elegant architectural appearance. Due to Bangkok’s humid climate and frequent rain, the canopy system required corrosion resistance, long-term stability, and a frameless, seamless look with maximum light transmission.

The client specified that the glass panels must be securely connected to handle wind and rain loads, and the installation process needed to be efficient. Pre-Well’s team proposed a complete solution using stainless steel spider fittings (Spider Fittings) and high-strength tension rods (Tension Rods) developed by the company.

Project Planning and Design

In the initial phase, Pre-Well sent designers and on-site engineers to Bangkok to survey the project location. The entrance area measured approximately 25 square meters, with a span of 8 meters and a height of about 5 meters. Based on these conditions, the team decided to use RL1204 small right-angle stainless steel spider fittings as the main connectors, paired with high-strength tension rods to stabilize the glass panels.

The design team created detailed installation drawings, marking every spider fitting and tension rod position, connection angles, and load calculations. The canopy used 8+8mm laminated tempered glass to ensure strength and safety while maintaining a bright, transparent appearance. The overall design emphasized structural stability, aesthetic transparency, corrosion resistance, and easy maintenance.

Construction Process and Team Roles

The on-site construction team was led by Pre-Well’s Thailand project manager, Mr. Wang, and included installation engineers, welding specialists, glass installers, and safety supervisors. Before starting, the team conducted a full training session, explaining installation methods and precautions for each spider fitting and tension rod.

The first step was to align and reinforce the steel framework. Engineers carefully checked all beams for level and vertical alignment to ensure precise canopy installation. Next, RL1204 right-angle spider fittings were installed at each designated point, tightly secured to the steel beams with SS316 stainless steel bolts, ensuring durability in Bangkok’s humid environment.

Glass panels were lifted and positioned using specialized hoisting equipment. Each panel was aligned precisely with the spider fittings and tension rods. The installation team measured and adjusted each gap to maintain consistent spacing and achieve a seamless appearance. The tension rod system added overall structural stability, ensuring the canopy remained secure under wind and rain loads.

Project Highlights and Technical Advantages

  1. High-Quality Stainless Steel Material: SS316 stainless steel spider fittings and tension rods provide excellent corrosion resistance, maintaining long-term durability in Bangkok’s humid climate.

  2. Precision Installation: Every glass connection point with spider fittings and tension rods was carefully calibrated to ensure accurate leveling and vertical alignment.

  3. Visual Transparency: The RL1204 small right-angle spider fittings are compact and sleek, creating a nearly frameless and floating visual effect.

  4. Efficient Construction: With optimized pre-planning and trained installation teams, the entire canopy was installed within 15 working days.

  5. Wide Applicability: This system can be used in commercial complexes, hotels, office buildings, villas, and other architectural projects.

Project Outcome and Client Feedback

By late April 2025, the glass canopy was successfully completed before the rainy season. The client was extremely satisfied with the outcome. The canopy provided effective rain protection while maintaining openness and transparency at the entrance. Natural sunlight passed through the glass panels, brightening the lobby space and enhancing the modern architectural style.

The client praised Pre-Well’s professional team and durable hardware selection. Using stainless steel spider fittings and tension rods not only ensured structural safety but also significantly improved the aesthetic appeal. The project was also shared on social media and Pre-Well’s official website as an exemplary case demonstrating high-quality stainless steel glass hardware and modern architectural design.
